From Vienna to the NFL: Montravius Adams Inspires the Next Generation in Dooly County

“Where you come from doesn’t define how far you can go; it reminds you why you started.”

The gym at Dooly County K-8 Academy buzzed with excitement as students, teachers, and staff gathered to celebrate Montravius Adams Day 2023, a day dedicated to one of their own who made it all the way to the NFL but never forgot where he started.

Adams, a former standout at Dooly County High School who went on to play for Auburn University and now suits up for the Pittsburgh Steelers, returned home to give back to the community that raised him. Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2017, Adams has built a successful professional career, but his greatest victories lie in the impact he continues to make off the field.

With generous support from Adams and his family, students enjoyed game trucks, treat bags, and lunch, while teachers were surprised with gift cards and cash prizes as a token of appreciation for their dedication.

Yet amid the fun, it was Adams’ words that left the lasting mark.

“Keep working hard and believe in yourself. I chose football, and I’ve been playing since I was seven years old. One thing I know, God is real,” Adams told students.

For many of the young students watching, seeing someone from Vienna who once walked the same hallways and learned from the same teachers made the dream feel tangible.

Dooly K8 Principal Dr. Hollie Walters said the visit carried deep meaning for the entire community.

“The students don’t see a famous NFL player often, especially one who’s from their county that went through the same halls they did,” Walters said. “It means a whole lot to the kids and the community. We’re just grateful that he’s here so they can be exposed to that and continue to dream as they are now.”

Adams’ visit was a celebration and a spark. It reminded students that no dream is too distant and no beginning too small. His journey from local fields to national stadiums demonstrates that success is built on faith, hard work, and heart.
